The Waiting Game

And so it begins, the waiting game.  We have entered the last trimester of the girls' pregnancies.  As we have aged and gained experience, we have learned to have the goats impregnated first, wait, and then have the sheep impregnated. This became our practice when, one year, we were inundated with babies.  The mothers delivered faster than we could build makeshift cribs for the babies and mothers.  There were 11 cribs occupied, and the mothers and babies left as soon as the three days were over.

This time of the year is exciting:  babies in the fields and beauties in the garden. Both happen so quickly!  The kids arrive first, and a few mothers may be late as they came into the heat late and had “one night only” with the buck. Lambs will be born a few weeks later.  Fragrant flowers in the spring will bloom one after another.  Peonies, lilies of the valley, lilacs, daphnes, and others bloom in fleeting succession.

I am looking forward to another spring, and I am sure you are, too!
