A winter Storm

January 23, 2016

What an outrageous morning we had today! The snow forecast called for either a little snow or a lot, and we indeed received a lot—two feet and counting! We’ve kept the rams on the house side of the road all winter, thinking a few inches of snow would be manageable for them. We were unpleasantly surprised when we poured our first cup of coffee and turned on the porch light, only to see that the snow had accumulated to about two feet.

This photo of the freestanding bird feeder shows just how much snow has piled up. We had to rescue the rams, so we managed to coax them across the road and into the horse barn. I shoveled a path from the road to the horse barn fence, which was no small feat, but I did it. Then, Fred and I shoveled a path from the other gate to the road where the rams were.

To get to the other side of the gate, I squeezed through, only to find that it opened inwards! We called and called for the rams, and after an exhausting trek to the gate, they figured out we were leading them across. The gate opened, and they crossed the road, following the path into the horse barn.

Now, all the animals are safe, eating, and hopefully content.
