Lambing

The lambing and kidding season is almost over.  We space the arrival of the kids and then the lambs.  Something happened this year because the ewes started to deliver in the middle of kidding.  Deliveries have gone smoothly; most happened when we were not looking.  How many?  I need to recount the list.

One of the biggest problems with the births of the sheep is the mothers’ teats.  They can become so engorged the babies cannot get their mouths on the teat to suck.  So Fred bought a handy Udderly EZ so we can milk the mother and feed the little ones.  As you squeeze, a small baby bottle collects the milk. When the bottle is filled, you place a rubber nipple on the end of the bottle that feeds the little one. The lambs can take over after that. So far that has been working very well for us.

I am ready to leave to go to the barn. It is the Land of Liquid Green Shit. As soon as the new pasture grows, the livestock gorge themselves and will come back with the lower jaw stained green.
